AI agent coordination cost estimator
Estimate the time and assigned value of changing your agent handoff workflow. Include preparation, weekly upkeep, setup, and extra tool costs. Every assumption and formula is visible.
Set your assumptions
The starting values are illustrative. Replace them with your own observations. Count preparation, checking status, review, and rework consistently in both workflows.
Enter only incremental tool costs for the proposed workflow, in USD. The hourly value is your own valuation of time, not an OpenScout price or a promised cash saving.
Weekly scenario
This scenario releases 0.83 hours per week after upkeep.
- Net time released per week
- 0.83 h
- Assigned weekly value after added cost
- $35.00
- Setup time recovered in time
- 2.4 weeks
- Setup value recovered after added cost
- 3.43 weeks
Net hours = (20 × (8 − 4) − 30) / 60 ≈ 0.83
Weekly value = net hours × $60 − $15 ≈ $35.00
Setup value = 2 h × $60 = $120.00
Recovery = setup value / positive weekly value. A zero or negative weekly value has no modeled recovery.
Displayed values are rounded; calculations use full precision.
Illustrative scenario, not measured product performance. A positive time value becomes a cash saving only if actual spending changes. Estimates do not include task quality, model usage changes beyond your added cost, or parallel speedup.
Measure coordination before estimating a return
A multi-agent workflow can add time as well as save it. Count the time spent preparing handoffs, locating context, checking progress, reviewing output, and resolving ambiguity. Use the same definition for your current and proposed workflows.
This tool compares recurring weekly coordination time. It does not model the duration of the coding task itself or assume that adding agents makes execution proportionally faster. The example inputs are authored assumptions, not an OpenScout benchmark.
The calculation
- Current hours: handoffs × current minutes per handoff ÷ 60.
- Proposed hours: (handoffs × proposed minutes per handoff + weekly upkeep minutes) ÷ 60.
- Net hours: current hours − proposed hours.
- Weekly assigned value: net hours × your hourly value − additional weekly tool cost.
- Setup recovery: setup hours ÷ positive net hours, or assigned setup value ÷ positive weekly value.
How to make the estimate useful
Observe a representative week of your current workflow. Record the handoffs and actual human time, then run a small pilot with the same acceptance standard. Replace the proposed inputs with the observed result, including failed handoffs, review, and rework.
Try a slower proposed handoff or more weekly upkeep to see the downside. If net time or assigned value is zero or negative, setup recovery is shown as “not reached.” A favorable scenario is a reason to measure, not proof of savings.
Is this an OpenScout ROI calculator?
It is a workflow comparison using your inputs. It contains no measured claim about OpenScout performance and no product price assumption. You can apply it to a manual process, a broker, or another coordination approach.
Time released is different from cash saved. The assigned value is meaningful only in the context of what you do with that time. To improve the handoff itself, start with a clear brief and the review gate.
